Subscribe NowThe Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission is seeking public comment on more than a dozen candidates who have applied to fill a vacancy in Lake Superior Court. The commission will interview the 15 candidates next month.
Fifteen individuals have applied to fill an open seat in Lake Superior Court, Civil Division 6 following Judge John Pera’s retirement from the post on July 1. The commission now invites public comment on the applicants’ qualifications.
Applicants for the position will be interviewed in the following order, beginning at 8:40 a.m. CDT Aug. 14: Alexander Lopez, Lake Circuit Magistrate Judge Lisa A. Berdine, Alice Ann Kuzemka, Rehana R. Adat-Lopez, Daniel W. Burke. Jr., Kristen D. Hill, Carly A. Brandenburg, Christopher Cooper, Lake Superior Magistrate Judge Michael N. Pagano, Stacy J. Vasilak, Merrillville Town Court Judge Gina L. Jones, Bessie M. Davis, Andrew L. Kraemer, Frank R. Martinez, III, and Jill S. Swope.
Interviews will take place in the hearing room of the Lake County Board of Commissioners, located on the third floor of Building A of the Lake County Government Center, 2293 N. Main St., Crown Point.
Both the interviews and deliberations of the commission are open to the public. Comments on the applicants must be submitted via email to [email protected] by 4 p.m. CDT on August 5.
The commission, chaired by Indiana Supreme Court Justice Geoffrey Slaughter, is required to nominate three candidates for appointment to the Lake Superior Court when a vacancy arises. The names of three finalists will be sent to Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb, who will then have 60 days to select the next judge.
