Indiana Republican Party Chairman Randy Head has resigned from his role with the party, effective immediately, the party announced Monday.

Head informed the party of his plans to return full-time at Krieg DeVault during the holiday weekend, according to a  release.

At Krieg Devault, he is of counsel and focuses his practice on government affairs and public advocacy.

“It has been the honor of my life to serve as chairman of the Indiana Republican Party for the past five months. In that time, we have achieved remarkable success, including electing a new Republican governor, lieutenant governor, and senator, as well as re-electing our Republican attorney general,” Head said in a released statement. “We also celebrated victories down the ballot, maintaining our supermajorities in both the House and Senate.”

Head was only party chairman for five months. He plans to continue serving on the Indiana Republican State Committee as the 4th District chair.

“I want to thank Governor-elect Mike Braun for trusting me with this role. It has truly been an honor. I also want to thank Krieg DeVault for allowing me to step away from my professional responsibilities to serve the party during this crucial time,” Head said in a statement. “Finally, I want to extend my gratitude to the hardworking staff at Indiana GOP headquarters. Their dedication and effort made it possible for us to exceed every fundraising benchmark and deliver these historic results.”

Vice Chair Erin Lucas will assume the role of interim chairwoman until the Indiana Republican State Committee elects a new chair.

“I am honored to step into this role and continue the outstanding work of Chairman Randy Head. I am looking forward to working with the Indiana Republican State Committee, party members, and Governor-elect Mike Braun to build on our recent successes and to help with a smooth transition moving forward,” Lucas said in a statement to Indiana Lawyer.

She is the development director at Mitch Daniels Leadership Foundation.

“I want to thank Randy Head for his exemplary service as chairman of the Indiana Republican Party. Under his leadership, the party achieved unprecedented success, delivering victories at every level,” Gov.-elect Mike Braun said in a statement. “Randy’s commitment to Republican principles and his ability to bring people together have left a lasting impact on the party and the state.”
