A Mishawaka lawyer named the newest judge to the St. Joseph Superior Court will begin his duties next month, with robing ceremonies to follow for several new judges and magistrate judges.

Jamie C. Woods was selected earlier this month to succeed retired Judge David Chapleau in St. Joseph Superior Court 6. According to a Tuesday press release, he will take the bench Nov. 15.

Woods was one of five finalists for the vacancy left by retired Chapleau. The St. Joseph County Judicial Nominating Commission interviewed candidates Aug. 24 and met in executive session to select five finalists, including Woods and four others.

Two additional judicial officers, Magistrate Judge Matthew R. Raper and Magistrate Judge Eric J. Tamashasky, recently joined the St. Joseph Superior Court. Raper and Tamashasky were sworn into the bench on Sept. 20 and Oct. 11, respectively.

A formal robing ceremony will be held Nov. 5 for Raper, as well as judges Stephanie Steele and Cristal Brisco.

An additional formal robing ceremony will be held for Woods and Tamashasky after the vacancy left by now Senior Judge Steven Hostetler is filled. The new appointee for that post will also be robed during the ceremony.
