New campaign finance reports filed this week show that incumbent Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita still holds a commanding lead in cash-on-hand despite Democratic challenger Destiny Wells raising more than Rokita in the final reporting period.
Rokita, a Republican, ended the reporting period from Oct. 1 to Oct. 21 with more than $1.4 million in the bank, compared to Wells’ $298,706.
“Attorney General Todd Rokita is in a strong position in this race because of his record protecting Hoosier jobs, the economy, keeping neighborhoods safe from criminals seeking release, and working to end illegal immigration,” Brent Littlefield, campaign manager for Rokita, said in a written statement. .
In terms of fundraising for the reporting period, Wells edged Rokita by generating $281,172 in campaign donations compared to his $237,654.
The Wells campaign listed 906 individual contributions in Q4, with 886 of these coming directly from Indiana residents.
“Our campaign is powered by the people of Indiana, and I’m proud to have organized labor and everyday Hoosiers standing shoulder to shoulder with us,” Wells said in a news release.
Wells said out-of-state interests are giving sizable donations to Rokita.
“Unlike my opponent, who leans on out-of-state interests, we are fueled by the hard-working families of this state who want real accountability and integrity in the Attorney General’s office. This is a movement to bring transparency back to Indiana, and Hoosiers are making it clear they want change,” Wells said in a press release.
Locals 135 D.R.I.V.E. in Indianapolis donated $5,000 to Wells and Sheet Metal Workers Local 20 Voluntary Political Action Fund donated $4,750.
Republican Attorney General Association Action Fund based in Washington D.C. donated $150,000 to Rokita.
