Five municipal courts were abolished in 2023 and one was reestablished in 2024, according to a Thursday order from the Indiana Supreme Court.

According to the order, which amends Administrative Rule 8(B), the municipal courts in Avon, Pendleton, Cumberland, Winchester and Fremont were abolished effective Dec. 31, 2023.

But the Lebanon City Court — which was abolished in 2013 — was reestablished effective Jan. 1. Alexander S. Kruse was elected to that bench in November.

The order also amends Administrative Rule 4(C)(3)(a), which governs the makeup of committee stakeholders responsible for the management, maintenance and access to records of the courts in Indiana.

That rule now states that the committee’s permanent membership will include the executive director of the Indiana Public Defender Council. The executive director of the Indiana Public Defender Commission was removed as a permanent member of the committee.

The current executive director of the council is Bernice Corley while the executive director of the commission in Derrick Mason.

Chief Justice Loretta Rush issued the order, with all justices concurring.
