A former Indiana Medicaid director has joined Ice Miller LLP, with the firm touting her extensive experience in shaping health care policy in the state.

Ice Miller announced that Cora Steinmetz  has joined the firm as of counsel in its Government Affairs & Regulatory Law Group.

In this role, Steinmetz will use her extensive experience to guide clients through the landscape of health care legislation, regulation, and legal challenges, according to the firm.

Ice Miller said Steinmetz had played a pivotal role in shaping Indiana’s Medicaid strategy and overall health care framework.

Throughout her career, she has worked to improve health outcomes across the state, with a focus on issues such as health care reimbursement, Medicare, and Medicaid. Ice Miller announced Steinmetz will use her experience to address health care issues on a national scale.

“We are thrilled to welcome Cora to Ice Miller and to our bipartisan policy team,” said Lawren Mills, chair of the firm’s Government Affairs & Regulatory Law Group, said in a news release. “Her insight in health care policy, combined with her proven leadership in navigating government initiatives, will be invaluable to our clients.”

According to the firm, as the director of Indiana’s Medicaid Policy and Planning Office, Steinmetz oversaw the successful rollout of the state’s fourth managed care program, Indiana PathWays for Aging, and steered the office’s response to a nearly $1 billion budget shortfall.

She also served as senior operations director in Gov. Eric Holcomb’s office, where she played a key role in executing the administration’s health policy agenda.

“Cora’s experience will further bolster our ability to provide strategic counsel on health care and regulatory matters, reinforcing our position as leaders in the field,” said Taryn Stone, a partner in the firm’s health care group.

A graduate of Butler University and the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, Steinmetz was recently honored with Indiana’s highest distinction, the Sagamore of the Wabash, in recognition of her exceptional service to the state.
