Indiana University’s Robert H. McKinney School of Law has selected its 2024 recipients of the school’s annual Cane Awards.

According to a McKinney news release, the Cane Awards serve as a way for students to show their appreciation for faculty and staff members who have gone above and beyond during each school year.

There are three canes with symbolization for each color—black, red and white.

The Black Cane stands for the most outstanding professor.

Professor Frank Sullivan Jr. received the award for the third time.

Sullivan joined the faculty after 19 years of service as a justice on the Indiana Supreme Court.

He was named an Indiana University Bicentennial Professor in 2020. Sullivan teaches Closely Held Business Organizations, Securities Regulation, and Advanced Sales at IU McKinney.

The Red Cane stands for most outstanding adjunct professor.

Scott Oliver, a partner at the Indianapolis law firm Lewis & Kappes, received the red cane.

Oliver is a 2016 graduate of IU McKinney and teaches Legal Communication and Analysis.

The White Cane stands for most outstanding administrator.

Mary Morris, senior associate director in the IU McKinney’s Office of Student Affairs, received the white cane.

Morris is a graduate of Indiana University Maurer School of Law. She worked as an associate attorney at Ice Miller and at Delaney & Delaney before joining the staff at IU McKinney.
