Outgoing Indiana Tax Court Judge Martha Blood Wentworth has been granted senior judge status.

The Indiana Supreme Court issued an order Aug. 17 certifying Wentworth as a senior judge, effective Sept. 3 through Dec. 31.

“I’m very excited about it,” Wentworth said. “I’ve loved every minute being Tax Court judge. It has been the honor of a lifetime.”

Wentworth has been the sole judge of the Indiana Tax Court since 2011, when she was appointed by former Gov. Mitch Daniels. She announced her retirement in April, and government attorney Justin McAdam has been named as her successor.

During her time on the bench, Wentworth authored 206 opinions. She told Indiana Lawyer that you never truly feel like the work is over when retiring, so she is glad to be able to transition into her new role as senior judge.

“I hope to be able to help Judge McAdam as he takes the reins of the tax court,” she said.
