Full-time attorneys and business owners? That’s the story of Fernanda Beraldi and Ed Broecker, the new owners of Windsor Jewelry at 16 N. Meridian St., right in the heart of downtown Indianapolis.

What started as a spark of curiosity fueled by an article in the Indianapolis Business Journal turned into full-fledged ownership of the long-standing jewelry store, whose former owner announced last November that the business would be shutting its doors for good.

But once Beraldi caught wind of the closure, the store was given another chance at serving residents and visitors in the Circle City.

Beraldi and Broecker are both Indianapolis-based attorneys with backgrounds in business law. The two say their work as attorneys informs how they approach business at Windsor, while working at Windsor makes them better attorneys for their clients.

On top of that, Beraldi was born and raised in Brazil, and her mom comes from Minas Gerais, a Brazilian state widely known for its production of gemstones. The colorful gems found in the area, like amethyst, citrines, and aquamarines, are something Beraldi hopes to introduce to Windsor.

Soon, the store will undergo several changes, including a full renovation to the store’s interior, which will trade its green walls and carpeted flooring for an aesthetic that honors the store’s origins dating back to the early 1900s. Beraldi has already discovered a layer of terrazzo lying beneath the carpet.

The owners also want to introduce products that celebrate past generations of jewelry and reflect modern designs.

The store will stay open during the renovations, however, with work expected to be complete within four to six weeks.

Regardless of the changes, Beraldi and Broecker want customers to know that the heart of the store is not changing, with many of the same staff members returning to usher in a new era. The two are excited to welcome back old and new customers alike.

Windsor Jewelry is currently open Tuesday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The store is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
