1 Indiana Supreme Court indefinitely suspends Indianapolis-based lawyer (July 5)
The Indiana Supreme Court published an order converting Indianapolis attorney Matthew Maples’ temporary suspension to an indefinite suspension from the practice of law for failing to cooperate with the disciplinary process.
2 Campaign to toss justices off Indiana Supreme Court countered by new PAC (Oct. 8)
A so-called “retention question” on the Nov. 5 election ballot asked voters whether they want to keep Chief Justice Loretta Rush and Justices Mark Massa and Derek Molter on the state’s high court. A grassroots social media campaign asked voters to reject the judges, while a political action committee formed by former justices and prominent attorneys urged their retention. All three justices easily won retention.
3 Indiana Supreme Court issues discipline orders for two Indianapolis attorneys (July 19)
The Indiana Supreme Court disciplined two Indianapolis attorneys, including one for becoming involved in a heated dispute with a client over a negative online review.
The Indiana Supreme Court has suspended former Elkhart County deputy prosecutor Benjamin Mattingly as part of a conditional disciplinary order. He is now on probation with the disciplinary commission.
An Indiana Catholic couple asked the U.S. Supreme Court to take their case after their transgender child was taken from their home because the parents would not use the child’s preferred pronouns. Ultimately, the court declined to hear the appeal.
The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a lower court’s ruling that denied a preliminary injunction for the Indiana Right to Life Victory Fund and a media company against two provisions of Indiana law dealing with restrictions on campaign donations.

The lawsuit accuses former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel and members of his family of using public money to pay for everything from designer clothes to college tuition to a small airplane. In October, Noel was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to more than a dozen felonies for misusing money from the fire and EMS departments he oversaw.
10 Carmel physician wins $2M from Ascension for breach of contract, interference (Oct. 7)
A Hamilton County jury awarded $2.05 million to Carmel physician Timothy Story after finding that Ascension St. Vincent Medical Group had improperly fired him.•
