Madison Co. child welfare worker charged with neglect

A caseworker for Indiana’s child welfare agency faces criminal charges stemming from the alleged neglect of a 4-year-old boy under his supervision. An arrest warrant was issued Monday for 26-year-old Spencer Day Osborn after prosecutors charged him with four felony counts of neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury on the recommendation of a Madison County grand jury.

Indiana residents speak out on proposed BMV gender rule

Indiana residents spoke out at a hearing about a proposed rule regarding a policy that allows residents who do not identify as male or female to choose a nonbinary option on driver’s licenses. The Bureau of Motor Vehicles’ new rule would require nonbinary applicants to go through the Indiana State Department of Health to change gender on licenses and identification cards.

Madison County halts regional jail consideration

Talks have ended between two central Indiana counties about possibly building a regional jail that they would share. The Madison County Council voted to halt discussions with Henry County and recommend that Madison County commissioners start a feasibility study for a new jail in Anderson potentially costing $50 million.

Anderson mayor’s son faces attorney discipline complaint

The son of Anderson’s mayor, who also previously served as an assistant city attorney, is facing an attorney discipline complaint stemming from his misdemeanor conviction after a drunken-driving property damage crash last year. The Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission last week filed a formal complaint against Evan B. Broderick, son of Anderson Democratic Mayor Thomas Broderick Jr., who also is an attorney and former Madison County prosecutor.

Prosecutor calls for demotion of Anderson police chief

A central Indiana prosecutor is calling the demotion of Anderson’s police chief over a confrontation with state troopers who were arresting the chief’s son. Madison County Prosecutor Rodney Cummings said state police told him Anderson Chief Tony Watters came physically close to investigators and put a finger in their faces during the June 7 arrest.
