Eight judges and lawyers vying for appointment to the Indiana Court of Appeals will be interviewed June 10 by the Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission. The commission will recommend three finalists to Gov. Mike Pence, who will select the person to succeed Judge Ezra Friedlander, who is retiring at the end of August.

Harrison Superior judge resigning, replacement appointed

Harrison Superior Judge Roger D. Davis has informed the Indiana Supreme Court that he is resigning Aug. 23. As a result, Chief Justice Brent Dickson appointed Senior Judge Curtis B. Eskew Jr. as judge pro tempore until a permanent replacement is chosen.

Senate votes to change filibuster rule

The U.S. Senate has voted to change how many votes are required to break a filibuster to approve executive and judicial nominees, reducing the threshold to the simple majority of 51. The change came about after several nominees were blocked by Republicans.

2 new magistrates appointed in Hendricks County

The Hendricks Superior Court is welcoming two new judges to the bench. Attorneys Tammy Somers and Michael “Joe” Manning have been appointed as magistrates for the Superior Court. Somers accepted the position effective July 1, 2013. Manning accepted the position effective Aug. 5, 2013.

Magistrate judge appointed to Allen Superior Court

Allen Circuit Magistrate Judge Craig J. Bobay has been appointed to Allen Superior Court by Gov. Mike Pence, the governor’s office announced Monday. He will fill a vacancy created when Civil Division Judge Daniel G. Heath transferred to the Family Relations Division following Judge Stephen Sims’ retirement in April.
