Munster bans public vaping, smoking

A northwestern Indiana town has banned all tobacco and vaping products from public spaces and facilities in what a backer hails as one of the most comprehensive in the state. The Munster council this month approved the ordinance that bans the smoking of all tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes, within 15 feet of a public space or entrance to a public facility in Munster.

Gary gunman acquitted of attempted murder in Walmart lot shooting

A man who claimed he was acting in self-defense when he fired 16 shots outside a northwestern Indiana Walmart store has been acquitted of the most serious charges against him. A Lake County jury convicted 27-year-old Alex Hughes of Gary on a criminal recklessness charge Friday for the September 2018 shooting in Hobart but found him not guilty of attempted murder and two other charges.

Suspended attorney indicted on tax charges

Schererville attorney Raymond Gupta, whose law license was suspended in June, has been indicted for tax evasion and failing to file federal tax returns, with the federal government claiming he owes nearly $2 million to the Internal Revenue Service.
