Justices urged to clear Putnam Co. prosecutor over undisclosed testimony deal

The elected Putnam County prosecutor should not be disciplined for accusations that he failed to disclose a deal for testimony from a witness who claimed he was wrongly identified, placing him in danger behind bars as a “snitch.”  The hearing officer in Timothy Bookwalter’s attorney discipline case said the prosecutor violated no rules, should not be punished and urged the Indiana Supreme Court to re-examine the ethical duties of prosecutors.

An elected Indiana prosecutor who allegedly failed to disclose to the defense a deal he requested to secure witness testimony against a criminal defendant is facing an attorney discipline complaint. Putnam County Prosecutor Timothy L. Bookwalter has been charged with professional misconduct by the Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission.

Plea set in Parke County crash that killed ex-Indiana sheriff, wife

A judge has set a plea hearing for a man accused in a drunken driving crash that killed a former western Indiana sheriff and his wife. Bryan Robertson’s jury trial was scheduled for April 8 on charges of driving while intoxicated causing death, but a Parke County judge set an April 11 change of plea and sentencing hearing Tuesday for Robertson at his attorney’s request.

Indiana distributing overdose antidote kits to 34 counties

The Indiana State Department of Health says 95 first responder agencies in 34 rural counties will receive opioid overdose antidote kits. The agency announced Wednesday it’s awarding $127,000 in funding to provide nearly 3,400 naloxone kits and training to the first responders.
